RIP Sparky Anderson

c.m: Complications from dementia

George Lee "Sparky" Anderson (February 22, 1934 – November 4, 2010) was a former Major League Baseball manager. He managed the National League's Cincinnati Reds to the 1975 and 1976 championships, then added a third title in 1984 with the Detroit Tigers of the American League.

Anderson retired from managing after the 1995 season, reportedly disillusioned with the state of the league following the 1994 strike that had also truncated the beginning of the 1995 season. He finished with a lifetime record of 2,194–1,834, for a .545 percentage.

Anderson was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame as a manager in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons Lee and Albert; daughter Shirley Englebrecht; and nine grandchildren.
