RIP Andrew Gold


c.m: Renal cancer and heart attack

Versatile singer/songwriter Andrew Gold, who enjoyed chart success with the songs "Lonely Boy" and The Golden Girls theme song, "Thank You For Being a Friend," passed away at the age of 59.

Gold, the son of Oscar-winning composer Ernest Gold and singer Marni Nixon, got his break in 1973 when he joined Linda Ronstadt's band. He played a key role on such tunes as "You're No Good" and "When Will I Be Loved?"

The year 1975 also marked Gold's successful collaboration with Art Garfunkel. He played all the instruments on Garfunkel's No. 1 UK hit, "I Only Have Eyes For You."

Aside from Garfunkel, Gold also worked with or produced music for artists including Cher, Brian Wilson, Don Henley, Celine Dion and members of the Beatles.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Kogan; mother Marni Nixon; sisters Martha Carr and Melani Gold Friedman; and three daughters from his first marriage.
